Shilajit from the Altai Mountains in a glass container.
Shilajit is also known as Mumiyo, Earth Resin, Mountain Balsam, Mountain Blood, Rock Sweat or Black Mineral Pitch. Genuine Shilajit, purified only with water, is blackish like tar (or black-brownish), shiny and has a very characteristic odour. Mumiyo from the Altai does not smell as intense as Himalayan Shilajit (in our experience and subjective opinion). It has a somewhat more subtle or different odour and generally smells slightly balsamic and like wood fire smoke. The flavour is mainly a little bitter, slightly pungent and slightly astringent in the aftertaste. The smell, taste, colour and consistency of Mumiyo vary more or less from place to place (place of occurrence, collection of the raw material in different regions, processing).
Along with many other products, Shilajit has been a highly valued Ayurvedic remedy for maintaining and improving health for thousands of years. Nowadays, it is highly valued by many people in many countries as a mineral-rich (85+) dietary supplement and has recently even been labelled a ‘superfood’ by some people.[*]
Shilajit is commercially available in various forms:
Recommended use: 1–2 times daily approx. 200–500 mg (pieces the size of barley grain to small mung bean or chickpea) with a pointed knife or other instrument from the glass and dissolve in warm water, milk, a cereal drink or Triphala tea etc. and drink or simply suck and then drink warm water. Use as a cure: 1–4 weeks. During this time, avoid alcoholic drinks and the intake of beans and very sour and very pungent substances.
Crucial for the positive effect of a substance is, among other things, always sensible, correct use.
Storage: Keep in a cool and dry place.
